Maryland HQL 4 Hour Training
The Handgun Qualification License (HQL) Firearms Safety Training Course is instructed by a Qualified Handgun Instructor, and consist of a minimum of 4 hours of instruction, Live Fire range training. Training includes the following minimum curricula:
- State Firearm Law. Overview of the State firearm laws.
- Discussion of what constitutes a regulated firearm
- How to properly purchase or transfer a firearm
- Where you are allowed to carry a firearm and how to properly transport a firearm
- When necessary to possess a carry permit, who is prohibited from possessing firearms
- State laws relating to minors
- Permissible levels of force, and use of deadly force.
- Home Firearm Safety. Overview of handgun and firearm safety in the home
- Discussion of access to minors
- Locking and storing of firearms, and use of safety devices, such as secure lock boxes.
- Handgun Mechanisms and Operation. Overview of the proper operation and safe handling of a handgun
- Cleaning and maintenance
- Loading and unloading of ammunition
- Differences between revolvers and semi-automatic handguns.
- Operation and Handling Demonstration. Orientation component that demonstrates the person’s safe operation and handling of a firearm
- “Live Fire” component in which the applicant safely shoots the weapon.

Maryland Certified HWCP Permit Training - 8 hr refresher

The Maryland HWCP Refresher firearms training course is an 8 hour course (refresher training). The 1 day training includes Classroom & Live Fire Activities conducted at firing range.
Classroom time includes a review the following elements:
A. Instruction regarding knowledge and safe handling of firearms;
B. Instruction regarding safe storage of firearms and child safety;
C. Instruction regarding knowledge and safe handling of ammunition;
D. Instruction regarding safe storage of ammunition and child safety;
E. Instruction regarding safe firearms shooting fundamentals;
F. Identification of ways to develop and maintain firearm shooting skills;
G. Instruction regarding federal and MD state laws pertaining to the lawful purchase, ownership, transportation, use and possession of firearms;
H. Instruction regarding the laws of this State pertaining to the use of deadly force for self-defense; and
I. Instruction regarding techniques for avoiding a criminal attack and how to manage a violent confrontation, including conflict resolution.
Live Fire Training:
J. Live fire shooting exercises conducted on a range, including the expenditure of a minimum of 100 rounds of

Maryland Certified HWCP Permit Training - 16 hr initial

The Maryland HWCP firearms training course is a 16 hour course (initial training) conducted over a 2 day period – Day 1: Classroom & Dry Fire Training – Day 2: Classroom & Live Fire Activities conducted at firing range.
Classroom time shall include the following elements:
A. Instruction regarding knowledge and safe handling of firearms;
B. Instruction regarding safe storage of firearms and child safety;
C. Instruction regarding knowledge and safe handling of ammunition;
D. Instruction regarding safe storage of ammunition and child safety;
E. Instruction regarding safe firearms shooting fundamentals;
F. Identification of ways to develop and maintain firearm shooting skills;
G. Instruction regarding federal and state laws pertaining to the lawful purchase, ownership, transportation, use and possession of firearms;
H. Instruction regarding the laws of this State pertaining to the use of deadly force for self-defense; and
I. Instruction regarding techniques for avoiding a criminal attack and how to manage a violent confrontation, including conflict resolution.

UTAH CONCEALED CARRY TRAINING
The UTAH CCDW firearms training course includes the following:
Classroom time shall include the following elements:
A. Instruction regarding knowledge and safe handling of firearms;
B. Instruction regarding safe storage of firearms and child safety;
C. Instruction regarding knowledge and safe handling of ammunition;
D. Instruction regarding safe storage of ammunition and child safety;
E. Instruction regarding safe firearms shooting fundamentals;
F. Identification of ways to develop and maintain firearm shooting skills;
G. Instruction regarding federal and state laws pertaining to the lawful purchase, ownership, transportation, use and possession of firearms;
H. Instruction regarding the laws of this State pertaining to the use of deadly force for self-defense; and
I. Instruction regarding techniques for avoiding a criminal attack and how to manage a violent confrontation, including conflict resolution.
NOTE: UTAH PERMIT CERTIFICATION REQUIRES ALL OF THE
ABOVE AND THE UTAH REQUIRED RULES, REGULATIONS, LAWS BE
APPLICANT MUST POSESS PERMIT IN STATE OF RESIDENCE PRIOR TO APPLICATION
